How
We Work:
Often, there is great resistance to change in technology organizations.
This may very well start at the top of the IT organization,
necessitating the choice of new leadership to manage and adjust
to organizational change. Just as often, IT management is
willing to make changes, but does not have the know how or lacks
the time to attack the problem. A consultant, working on an interim
(often full-time) basis is often the right choice to augment current
or incoming management as an interim CIO (iCIO). Our consultants
have served in a variety of roles; most commonly, they work to scope
and initiate needed technological or operations improvements. The
interim executive/consultant's goal is to position the company to
maximize the early effectiveness of new executive hires by leveraging
the "outsider's perspective.“ Often, the iCIO transitions to
a coaching role (virtual CIO or vCIO) in order to assure that changes
become permanent, or simply to provide a sounding board and “another
set of eyes” for the new IT leader.
iCIO methods:
- Develop the business contribution view of IT
- Assess in-place technology
- Inventory active and planned projects
- Review IT skills, talents, and requirements
- Create IT redirection document
- Manage IT turnaround
- Define needed IT leadership skills
- Coach and work with new management to gain traction
